5 Style Tips for Summer

5 Style Tips for Summer

20/05/2022

The days are getting longer, the air is getting warmer, and you’re starting to see people switch from jeans and hoodies to shorts and t-shirts. This means one thing; Summer is on its way, which calls for a wardrobe refresh.

Whilst your summer clothing should look good, a large part of pulling off a stylish outfit for this season is comfort. Feeling good is directly correlated with looking good; if you are uncomfortable, this will translate over to how you present yourself. So without further ado, here are 5 style tips for looking and feeling your best this Summer.

1. Lighter Fabrics are Essential

As the sun comes out, along comes with it hotter days. Whilst you may have some incredibly stylish shirts from Fall/Winter, throughout summer you should always opt for lighter fabrics over heavier ones. This will not only prevent the never-desired sweat patches, but it will also ensure that you feel comfortable which in turn helps you express a more laid back and confident air.

One of the most desirable features of a lighter fabric is breathability; this will help prevent sweating and ensure maximum comfort throughout the day. Fabrics such as cotton and rayon offer excellent breathability, as do linen and polyester, which is why they are often used for workout clothing. On the more high-end and expensive side are linen and silk, which are go-to summer fabrics as they have the additional ‘draping’ look, perfect for a luxury summer outfit.

If you’re looking for a breathable and fashionable piece to add to your summer wardrobe, then you may want to check out our Yacht Shirt. Crafted from the all-natural, breathable fabric, Tencel™, this shirt has an oversized fit, making it perfect to be worn buttoned up on its own, or layered over a t-shirt. Pair with one of our oversized graphic tees for a standout look.

2. Sunglasses will elevate your look

Possibly one of the best pieces you can add to any fit during summer is a quality pair of sunglasses. Not only will they protect your eyes, the right pair will elevate your whole outfit. Although you can get away with a single pair throughout a whole season, ideally you may want to have two. For days you’re opting for a lighter coloured outfit, a pair of brown or tortoise shell sunglasses will be best suited, whereas black shades will suit darker outfits better.

Our Astral sunglasses are perfect for this summer; a modern take of a classic frame, they are available in black, grey and brown/tortoise shell. Handmade in Italy, these luxury quality sunglasses will upgrade your outfit whilst helping keep your expression cool, calm and collected.

3. Drop the flip flips, cop some Sliders

Although flip flops get a lot of unnecessary hate, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that they have their place. That place solely being a sunny beach in Australia. If that isn’t where you are, then a far better (and more practical) option would be sliders. Sliders generally are more comfortable, and also open up the option of wearing with socks, which means that 1. You’re not obligated to get your feet out, and 2. There are far more stylish outfit combos to put together. In many cases, sliders also have a cleaner, more sophisticated shape and look.

Our Sliders are constructed with a custom soft super-matte EVA and are finished with sand blasted insoles for optimised grip. They feature a tread formed using Represent branding, and come in Flat White and Black, both with a matte finish. The clean silhouette is perfect for repping at the beach, out in town, or for a quick stop off at the shops. Trust me, you’ll want to wear these more than any flip flop in the world.

4. A cap is an 'undercover' essential

Caps truly are the best. For Summer, they serve a functional purpose of keeping the sun out of your eyes, but they also have the timeless feature of hiding a potential bad hair day. With regards to style, you can tactically use a cap two ways; to add an extra popping element to your outfit, or to downplay and hide your face for an undercover look, potentially ideal for if you’re not fussed about being noticed or recognised. Although it may not be for you, a backwards cap can always add a twist to your outfit, or for the fairer skinned can provide some sun shade for your neck.

With caps, I’d usually follow the same rule as sunglasses; if you’re wearing a lighter coloured outfit such as brighter blues, browns, or creams, opt for the same with your cap. Our Monogram Cap in vintage white is ideal for this. If your outfit is darker in shade or black, you can never go wrong with a black cap, such as our Varsity Cap.

5. The Return of Shorts

Finally, the time of the year has come where it is perfectly acceptable to rock a pair of shorts, without risking being asked “why are you wearing those?” Although some may wear shorts all year round, the time for which they were created is now. The weather is getting warmer, the sun is out, and you might want to get a bit of colour on those legs you’ve (potentially) been working on all winter in the gym.

The key with shorts is to wear what you’re comfortable in and to dress for the occasion. Check out our article on the best shorts to wear this summer to see our roundup of shorts for every occasion. I also suggest you take a look at our full range of streetwear shorts. For now though, I’m going to highlight our Souvenir Shorts, a style which is perfect for anytime, anywhere. Coming in Black, Concrete, and Racing Green, these shorts feature an elasticated waistband for functional comfort, and have a side seam split hem with contrast piping and side panel for an added touch of style.
